Before you begin wok in Australia, you will need to apply for a Tax File Number (TFN) as you will be required to pay tax on your earnings at a higher rate than Australian residents.
It is important that your employer knows you are a non-resident, as they are responsible for deducting tax from your wages before you are paid.
You can apply for a TFN online in a simple process.
You will also need to research your superannuation obligations. Superannuation contributions apply to all Australian workers and is taken out by your employer at a rate of 9.5 percent. When you leave Australia permanently, you will be entitled to collect your superannuation contributions, however, they will have already been taxed at 35 percent by the ATO.
